Operating within a dense urban context, we have embraced the site’s potential to become a new cultural destination that supplements and supports the adjacent opera house. A playfully sloped truss forms an elevated walkway that offers pedestrians new vantage points onto river and the city. Carved below the truss is a recessed plaza that provides a respite from the nearby density and offers opportunities for informal gathering and relaxation, with a bike path running along the outside perimeter. Finally, a group of floating mid-river dry docks offers dynamic space capable of hosting a range of programming, from galas and dinners to performances projected onto the adjacent opera wall.
